April 04, 2005More forbidden fruitCaptain Ed has his second installment of news from behind the Gomery publication ban up at Captain's Quarters. It's spicy stuff; he concludes with this: If Brault’s testimony holds up, the reputations of Chrétien, Gagliano, and their teams will be shredded. But it looks like the reputations of Paul Martin’s Ministers, MPs, and organizers are going to be pretty tattered by the end of this as well.I'd like Martin to pulled down into the muck, but getting Chrétien in there will be nice too. This is going to trash the reputation of the Liberals so much that even the daffy voters of Ontario will not be able to ignore it. I'm really looking forward to the next election. I have to commend Captain Ed for distributing this news. I'm also impressed at how well he covers the background to the story. It's ot easy getting a handle on another countries politics, and I didn't spot any inaccuracies in what I've read so far. I think this new cloak and dagger aspect to the story erases the plodding nature of the inquiry so far. Because of it, it's caught the sleepy Canadian public's eye and more attention will be paid to the blatent corruption of the Liberal party. I hope so anyway. UPDATE: The Captain's site is getting deluged with curious Canadians. His comments and trackbacks seem to be failing, but the info is still there -- though it takes a while to load. Well, good stuff, but this is Canada, let's not forget. This stuff will excite some for a little while, but most will forget quickly. Canadians are so indolent, they will re-elect the Liberals tomorrow because lethargy is the hallmark of liberalism here: don't bore me with facts, give me ideological reaction! Give me Political Correctness or give me the death of hockey! Posted by: FMM at April 5, 2005 08:12 AMYeah, I fear that too. But I really think the fact that they're trying to hide the testimony is getting people excited. It's like some slick marketing ploy -- "Gabbo is coming!" It's penetrating the thick coating of cynicism and ennui that Canadians are coated with. Well, I hope so anyway... Posted by: Bruce Gottfred at April 5, 2005 09:19 AMIt is time for someone to post the results of the Gomery Commission, we don't need a silence on the inquiry. When the person comes to trial, the jury will have the responsibilty to see the truth a from the gossip. Thanks. Posted by: ed at April 5, 2005 09:58 AMWe might get lucky and be able to charge the Limeral Party as being a criminal organization! PRL Posted by: Peter McCaffrey at April 5, 2005 10:15 AMFMM : Funny that you talk about our "lethargy" while you just re-elected a president that fooled you in a war and who is openly paying journalists and film makers to defend his views (which is called propaganda). About the elections of the liberals, its not Canada that elected them, its ontario ! And I do really hope that the links to the party head will be made clear so that we can see Martin's head pop . But as said, I really fear those $!"@! ontarians will re-elect the liberals... another very good reason to make Quebec a nation by itself. Thank you captain ed ! I am so pleased that someone is posting the information about the Adscam. I am so fed up with the Liberals and all those voters who put them back in power. I am a Canadian who cannot afford to pay any more taxes especially when they are using it for their own purposes. Do they not realize how ordinary Canadians are suffering finacially. There are those I know who are losing their homes due to high taxes and the local and provincial governments are'nt any better than the Feds. But the Feds are the worst. And to think I liked Paul Martin as Finance Minister. I could'nt wait to get rid of that hot headed idiot Chretian. I could never understand what he was saying anyway and what an embarrasment to Canadians he was. Then leave, wuss. I'm sick you people whining about the liberals. I'm no fan of them either any more, but don't look to any other country for guidance. Our problems are a diminished international presence, lower spending per capita on fixing other peoples problems, and spending millions of dollars on making a few political leaders and their friends rich. I'll take that over a country that exploits it's own poor to man a military to take over and occupy a foreign power under false pretenses that have been proven false and get away with it, who is personally being funded by the so-called terrorists "Bin-Ladens" do not obey international rules (1970's ballistic missile defence treaty, non-participation in international war crimes tribunal (cause the rest of the world might pick on us as we commit war crimes), NAFTA, Helms-Burton Law, Byrd Amendment and the list goes on. I can think of no ther country with a higher standard of living, a safer environment, a respectable international and domestic record than Canada. Hate the corrupt liberals, fine, but be proud of being a canadian. If a few million in the pockets of politicians and some expensive monogrammed golf balls are our country's greatest shames, then colour me red and white! I just loooove The True North Strong and Free! If you don't like it,then get out of my country. Posted by: BDP at April 5, 2005 11:15 PMwhat lessons on integrity can canadians learn from from those south of the border.? none whatsoever. at lease not from the presence administration. dishonesty wether by nations or by individuals is not acceptable, the tories are no better as there were people from the last tory goverment who were charged with influence peddling. Who brought up the Americans? Is it possible to criticize our own government without having to bring up our neighbors to the South? One of the reasons I see Canadians consistently re-electing the incompetent weathervanes that make up our present government is that they work so hard to depict themselves as 'different' from the Americans -- as if that really means anything. Canadians have to get over this American obsession that defines their identity. Posted by: Bruce Gottfred at April 6, 2005 10:15 AMForget the influence peddling of the Tories. It is now time for a change, and when these details come to light, I hope to God people do their duty and turf these corrupt bastards. Perhaps we will have to be diligent on another party in power, so be it. But, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me - how many time have the liberal party pulled the wool over? Wake up fools - and turf these jackasses when we get the chance. Proud Canadian, Proud Ontarian. Kev Posted by: Kever at April 6, 2005 10:35 PMI remember the book "On the Take". A supposed expose of Mulroney written by one Stevie Cameron, now discredited. Mulroney was an angel compared to these Liberal thugs. People are anxious to see the Liberals fall for corruption. Good. What scares me even more than corrupt politicians (I expect corruption) is that it seems implicit that the alternative is the Conservative party. If this is the case, this is bad news. There is more at stake than dishonest politicians -- there is the threat of Bushesqe or Molrouney politics. Recall how the Conservatives robbed students by taxing their student loans and drove interst rates up to 22%, etc. If the Liberals fall, I hope Canadians follow their ethics and not just a drive to replace the liberals with the next biggest party. I hope that Quebec goes Bloc and the rest go NDP... at least they know where the health of Canada lies. Posted by: paulie at April 7, 2005 09:14 AMI see people refering to Conservatives as Tories.. read your history. Torism is dead in Canada. it was taken over by something more extreme... Conservatives are no longer progressive and are improperly described as Tories. Posted by: paulie at April 7, 2005 09:26 AM'Tory' is just a word. Just like 'Liberal', it's changed it's meaning as time has passed. I'm voting Conservative and I'm planning to work on the campaign of my local candidate -- as I have for the past two elections. I don't like all the proposals of the party, nor all the people that belong, but they are not the knuckle-dragging thugs they are commonly portrayed as. Listen to what they say, rather that what their opponents say they say (or believe), and you will see they are little different from the Liberals in terms of the basics. However, unlike the Liberals, they haven't had their hands on the levers of power for so long that they're forgotten the distinction between the party and the government. There needs to be a new government in place to make a fresh start. And after 10 years in power, the Conservatives will probably need to be turfed too. It's human nature to get arrogant and complacent. We change governments for the same reason we change our underwear. Posted by: Bruce Gottfred at April 7, 2005 10:55 AMI'm not a religious man (in fact I'm agnostic), but I do pray that the Martin government is turfed asap. It's too bad that that moron Chretien wasn't still in power so he could leave the P.M.'s office a shamed man. Martin is not much better....just easier to listen to. Quebec should be allowed (some say 'encouraged') to separate. Personally, I don't care anymore. Why should all of Canada be held hostage to Quebec's threats to leave. Bye to bilingualism! Bye to Ontario being able to ignore the West with the 'bought & paid for'support of Quebec. If Quebecers stay, that's great too, but I think it's unwise to kiss their butts. The adscam fiasco grew out of a phoney desire to buy Quebec's support. Maybe the myopic voters of Ontario will no longer accept Liberal lies & fear mongering & finally help us get rid of the crooks.
