Banks

I don't care for them, myself. And they don't like me. Recently we decided to simplify our banking by changing my wife's account at CIBC into a joint account. We went in and I filled out numerous forms and signed and initialed on the appropriate dotted lines. Our new checks arrived and... I was listed as:

BRUCE GOTTSRED
Hmmm. I went in to their office a month ago to straighten this out, and wrote my name as clearly as I could in block letters on a piece of paper. It would terrible to make a mistake again, said the pleasant woman from the evil corporation that nickels and dimes us to death. The new checks listed me as:
BRUE GOTTFRED
I was too angry to call them again, so my wife did it. Now the bank knows me as:
B. GOTTSFRED
Maybe I should just get my name legally changed to match the checks.

Now I don't usually comment on your Blog, but this got my back up!

It's funny how you say that banks nickel and dime you when in fact you are getting a cheap service. Think about what you pay per month for phone service...about $25.00 - 50.00 depending on usage, cable...usually $50.00 and what do you get? Cable and a phone. For your $10-15.00/month with banking, you get access to ATMs all over the world, Internet Banking, Telephone Banking, Teller Banking. You can write a cheque that miraculously debits your account...how do we do that??? Approximately 10 people handle that cheque so that you can have the service. Do you pay labour to get your car fixed? Usually about $70.00/hr, funny how you don't gripe as much about that as you do banking.

Don't feel badly, Canadians worship, and practice mediocrity at all times. Leafs, Martin, Liberals, NDP, the list goes on & on.

As long as the banks are giving 1/10 of 1% interest on deposits up to $50,000 I AM paying them to do all those things.

I keep all my extra cash at ING and transfer it to RBC as needed. ING gives me 2.75%. RBC folk have told me, "yes, but they are not a real bank!".

Ha!

You tell him, sis. No one is under any obligation to deal with an "evil corporation that nickel and dimes us to death". There is an enormous choice in financial services available in Canada from little credit unions to big "evil" corporations. Don't think you're getting value or good service? Pick a better one.

I have another post brewing about the damn banks. But it'll have to wait for now...
